An abandoned experiment refers to an unsuccessful attempt to turn an invention into a reality. This means that the inventor tried to make their idea work, but it didn't succeed.

For example, let's say an inventor came up with an idea for a new type of car engine. They spent months working on it, but in the end, it didn't work as they had hoped. This would be considered an abandoned experiment.

It's important to note that an abandoned experiment doesn't count as prior art under the Patent Act. This means that if someone else comes up with the same idea and is able to make it work, they can still apply for a patent.
