Definition: A person who is not present where expected, either because they are away from their usual residence or have departed from the state without having a representative there.

For example, if a student misses school without permission, they are considered an absentee. Similarly, if a person is not present at a meeting or event where they were expected to be, they are also an absentee.

The term "absentee" can also be used as an adjective to describe something related to a person who is absent, such as an absentee ballot for voting. Additionally, it can be used as an adverb to describe an action done in an absentee manner, such as voting absentee.
