Definition of acquitted
Acquitted, adj.
- Judicially discharged from an accusation; absolved.
- Released from a debt.
Example 1: The defendant was acquitted of all charges after the jury found him not guilty.
Example 2: The bank acquitted the borrower of the remaining debt on the loan.
These examples illustrate the two different meanings of the word "acquitted". In the first example, the defendant was found not guilty and therefore was absolved of the accusation against him. In the second example, the borrower was released from the remaining debt on the loan, meaning they no longer owed any money.
If we desire respect for the law, we must first make the law respectable.
