When a meeting or proceeding is adjourned, it means that it is temporarily stopped and will continue at a later time. This is usually announced by a judge or other presiding officer.

1. "This court stands adjourned until 10:00 a.m. tomorrow."

2. "The meeting was adjourned until next week due to a lack of quorum."

Both examples illustrate the definition of adjourned. In the first example, the court proceedings are temporarily stopped and will continue the next day.
