Definition: Aiel is a legal term used in the past. It refers to two things: a grandfather or a writ by an heir of a grandfather to recover the grandfather's estate from someone who wrongfully took it. For example, if someone took a grandfather's land without permission, the heir could use a writ of aiel to get it back. The term is not used much anymore.
Example: In medieval times, if a grandfather died and someone else took his land, the grandson could use a writ of aiel to get it back. This was a way to protect family property.
