CADASTRE
Cadastre (pronounced kuh-das-ter) is a survey and valuation of real estate in a county or region that is used for tax purposes. It is also known as cadaster.
- A government agency conducts a cadastre of all the properties in a city to determine their value and calculate property taxes.
- A landowner hires a surveyor to create a cadastre of their property to settle a boundary dispute with a neighbor.
The first example shows how a cadastre is used by the government to assess property taxes. The second example illustrates how a cadastre can be used by a private landowner to resolve a legal issue with a neighbor.
