A city attorney is a lawyer who works for a city. They give advice to the city and represent it in legal matters. They are also known as municipal attorneys, city counsels, corporation counsels, or city solicitors.

For example, if a city wants to pass a new law, the city attorney will advise the city council on whether it is legal or not. If someone sues the city, the city attorney will represent the city in court.
