Definition of Codex Theodosianus
Codex Theodosianus is a compilation of imperial enactments in Roman law. It was prepared at the direction of the emperor Theodosius II and published in A.D. 438. The Theodosian Code replaced all other imperial legislation from the time of Constantine I (A.D. 306–337), and remained the basis of Roman law until it was superseded by the first Justinian Code in A.D. 529.
One example of the Codex Theodosianus is the law that prohibited Jews from holding public office or serving in the army. This law was included in the Theodosian Code and remained in effect until the fall of the Roman Empire.
