De certificando is a legal term that means "about something to be certified." It refers to a writ that requires something to be certified, similar to certiorari.

For example, certificando de recognitione stapulae is a type of writ that was used in the past. It commanded the holder of certain commercial debt instruments (i.e., the mayor of the staple) to certify to the lord chancellor the existence and terms of a statute staple (i.e., a bond for commercial debt) wrongfully detained by a party to the bond.

This means that if someone was holding onto a bond for commercial debt that they were not supposed to have, the mayor of the staple would be required to certify the existence and terms of the bond to the lord chancellor through the use of a certificando de recognitione stapulae writ.
