Ex distribution means without distribution. When shares are traded ex distribution, it means that they no longer carry the right to receive a distribution to be made to holders. This is abbreviated as X or XDIS.

For example, if a company declares a dividend of $1 per share and the ex distribution date is set for June 1st, then anyone who buys shares on or after June 1st will not receive the dividend payment. Only those who owned shares before June 1st will receive the dividend.

Another example is when a mutual fund pays out capital gains to its shareholders. If an investor buys shares of the mutual fund after the ex distribution date, they will not receive the capital gains payment.
