Simple Definition
Excommengement is another word for excommunication, which is a punishment given by a religious court for doing something wrong. It means that the person is kicked out of the religious community. In the past, being excommunicated also meant that the person couldn't do certain things in regular society, like be a witness in court or own property. Nowadays, it's mostly used to make someone come to court if they're accused of something. If the person doesn't come to court or ask for forgiveness within 40 days, they might be arrested.
The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is practice.
