Legal Definitions - Federal Appendix

Definition: The Federal Appendix is a collection of reports that includes all the full-text "unpublished" opinions received by West from the federal circuit courts of appeals. These opinions are not designated for publication in the Federal Reporter. The coverage of the Federal Appendix began on January 1, 2001. It is abbreviated as Fed.Appx.

Example 1: A federal circuit court of appeals issues an opinion in a case that is not designated for publication in the Federal Reporter. The full-text opinion is sent to West and is included in the Federal Appendix.

Example 2: A lawyer is researching a legal issue and finds a relevant case in the Federal Appendix. The lawyer can read the full-text opinion to understand how the court applied the law to the facts of the case.
