Definition of genuine
Definition: Genuine, adjective.
- (Of a thing) authentic or real; something that has the quality of what it is purported to be or to have. For example, "The diamond ring was genuine and worth a lot of money."
- (Of an instrument) free of forgery or counterfeiting. For example, "The bank teller could not determine whether the signature on the check was genuine or not."
These examples illustrate that something that is genuine is real and authentic. In the first example, the diamond ring is genuine, meaning it is a real diamond and not a fake. In the second example, the bank teller is trying to determine if the signature on the check is genuine, meaning it was actually signed by the person it claims to be from and not forged or fake.

Definition: Genuine means something is real or authentic. It is what it says it is and not fake. For example, if you buy a toy that says it is made by a certain company, and it really is made by that company, then it is a genuine toy. It can also refer to a signature on a document that is not fake or copied.
