Legal Definitions - grantee–grantor index

A grantee-grantor index is a list of recorded property transactions kept in the county recorder's office. It is alphabetically organized by the grantee's name and includes the volume and page number of the recorded property transactions. In some jurisdictions, the grantee-grantor index is combined with the grantor-grantee index.

• John Smith buys a house from Jane Doe. The transaction is recorded in the county recorder's office and listed in the grantee-grantor index under John Smith's name with the volume and page number of the transaction.
• In another example, Mary Johnson sells a piece of land to Robert Brown. The transaction is recorded and listed in the grantee-grantor index under Robert Brown's name with the volume and page number of the transaction.
