HIS

HIS is a possessive pronoun that is used to show ownership. It is traditionally used for males, but it can also be used for both males and females. However, due to the trend towards nonsexist language, it is now recommended to avoid using HIS (and other pronouns like HE and HIM) unless the reference is only to a male person.

• John forgot HIS book at home.
• Samantha forgot HER book at home.
• The teacher asked the students to bring HIS or HER own pencils.

The first example uses HIS to refer to a male person, while the second example uses HER to refer to a female person. The third example uses HIS or HER to include both male and female students.
