An intoxilyzer is a device used to measure the amount of alcohol in a person's breath. It is often used by police officers to determine if someone has been driving while intoxicated.

For example, if a police officer pulls over a driver who they suspect has been drinking, they may ask the driver to blow into an intoxilyzer. The device will then measure the amount of alcohol in the driver's breath and give a reading.

If the reading is above the legal limit, the driver may be charged with driving under the influence (DUI) or driving while intoxicated (DWI).

Intoxilyzers are also sometimes called breathalyzers, alcoholometers, drunkometers, or intoximeters.
