juise (juu-Iz). Hist. 1. A judgment, sentence, or penalty. 2. By extension, the instrument of punishment, especially a gibbet.

• After being found guilty of theft, the judge pronounced a juise of six months in prison.
• The juise for treason during medieval times was often death by hanging.

The first example illustrates the use of juise as a judgment or penalty given by a judge in a court of law. The second example shows how juise can also refer to the instrument of punishment, in this case, a gibbet used for hanging those convicted of treason.
