Definition: A mile is a unit of measurement used to determine distance. It is equal to 5,280 feet and is also known as a statute mile. In nautical terms, a mile is referred to as a nautical mile.

• It is approximately one mile from my house to the grocery store.

• The ship traveled 10 nautical miles before reaching the port.
