MUNERA

Munera (pronounced myoo-nuh-ruh) is a legal term that refers to tenancies at will. This means that the tenant has the right to occupy a property for as long as the landlord allows it. The landlord can end the tenancy at any time without giving a reason.

One example of munera is when a landlord allows a friend to stay in their spare room for a few weeks. The friend does not have a lease or rental agreement, and the landlord can ask them to leave at any time.

Another example is when a farmer allows a neighbor to graze their animals on their land. The neighbor does not have a formal lease, and the farmer can end the arrangement whenever they want.

Munera was a common type of tenancy in medieval times when land was often granted by lords to their vassals. The vassals had no legal right to the land and could be evicted at any time. Today, tenancies at will are rare, and most landlords require tenants to sign a lease or rental agreement that specifies the length of the tenancy and the conditions under which it can be terminated.
