Definition of National Labor Relations Act
The National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) is a federal law that governs the relationship between employers and employees in the United States. It was enacted in 1935 and is also known as the Wagner Act. The NLRA established the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), which is responsible for enforcing the law and resolving disputes between employers and employees.
The NLRA protects the rights of employees to form and join unions, engage in collective bargaining, and take part in other activities related to their working conditions. It also prohibits employers from interfering with these rights or retaliating against employees who exercise them.
For example, if a group of employees at a factory decide to form a union, the NLRA gives them the right to do so without fear of retaliation from their employer. If the employer tries to prevent the union from forming or takes action against the employees involved, the NLRB can investigate and take legal action to protect the employees' rights.
