Definition of natural domicile
Natural domicile refers to a person's true, fixed, principal, and permanent home, to which that person intends to return and remain even though currently residing elsewhere. It is the place where a person has been physically present and regards as home. A person has a settled connection with their natural domicile for legal purposes, either because that place is home or because the law has designated that place.
For example, if a person is born in New York and their parents are domiciled in New York, then their natural domicile is New York. Even if they move to California for work or school, their natural domicile remains New York because that is where they intend to return and remain.
Another example is if a person is a citizen of the United States, their natural domicile is the United States. Even if they live abroad for many years, their natural domicile remains the United States because that is where they have their true, fixed, principal, and permanent home.
