Definition of non-feasance
Non-feasance
The failure of an employee to complete a task that they agreed to do for their employer. This is different from "misfeasance," which is doing a poor job, and "malfeasance," which is doing something illegal or wrong.
- An employee who fails to show up for work without calling in sick is guilty of non-feasance.
- A security guard who falls asleep on the job and fails to monitor the premises is guilty of non-feasance.
These examples illustrate non-feasance because in both cases, the employee did not fulfill their obligation to their employer. In the first example, the employee did not show up for work, which is a task they agreed to do. In the second example, the security guard did not monitor the premises, which is a task they were hired to do.
