Definition: Par item refers to a piece of a whole, which may or may not be separated. In commercial law, it can also refer to a negotiable instrument or a promise or order to pay money handled by a bank for collection or payment. It does not include a payment order governed by division 11 of the UCC or a credit- or debit-card slip. An item that a drawee bank will remit to another bank without charge.
