Definition: To take part in an activity or event, or to invest in something and receive a share of the profits or benefits.

Example 1: Sarah decided to participate in the school play by auditioning for a role.

Example 2: John agreed to participate in the company's employee stock ownership plan, which allowed him to invest in the company and receive a share of its profits.

These examples illustrate the different ways in which someone can participate. In the first example, Sarah is participating in an activity by auditioning for a role in the school play.
