A political party is a group of people who come together to influence the government's decisions and policies. They do this by nominating and electing candidates to public office. In the United States, there are two main political parties: the Democratic Party and the Republican Party.

For example, during an election, the Democratic Party will nominate a candidate to run for president. They will then work to get that candidate elected by campaigning and encouraging people to vote for them. The Republican Party will do the same thing, but with their own candidate.

Political parties are important because they help to organize people with similar beliefs and goals. They also provide a way for people to have a voice in the government and to make sure their ideas are heard.
