Puer

Puer is a Latin word that has two meanings in Roman law. Firstly, it refers to a child, especially a boy who has not yet reached puberty. Secondly, it refers to a male slave.

For example, in ancient Rome, a puer would be considered a child until they reached puberty. During this time, they would have a special legal status known as puerility. This meant that they were not yet considered adults and did not have the same rights and responsibilities as grown-ups.

Another example is that male slaves in ancient Rome were often referred to as pueri. They were considered property and did not have any legal rights. They were owned by their masters and could be bought and sold like any other commodity.
