Definition of quietus
Definition: Quietus means to be released from a debt or obligation. It can also mean to be discharged from serving as an executor. In the past, it was used in England by the Clerk of the Pipe to give a discharge to an accountant. This discharge was usually concluded with "abinde recessit quietus" which means "hath gone quit thereof". Quietus can also refer to the removal of a judge from the bench.
Example: John received a quietus from the bank after he paid off his loan. This means that he was released from his debt and no longer owed the bank any money. Another example is when a judge is removed from the bench, they are said to have received a quietus. This means that they are no longer serving as a judge.
