Definition: Remanentia (rem-uh-nen-shee-uh). [Law Latin] A remainder or perpetuity.

Examples:

• When a person leaves property to their children, but designates that it should go to their grandchildren if their children are deceased, this is an example of remanentia.
• A trust that is set up to provide income for a charity in perpetuity is also an example of remanentia.

These examples illustrate the concept of remanentia as a legal term that refers to the idea of something being passed down or continuing on indefinitely. In the first example, the property is designated to pass down to future generations if the initial recipients are no longer alive. In the second example, the trust is set up to continue providing income to the charity for an indefinite period of time.
