Definition: Resceit (ri-seet) is a historical term that refers to the admittance of an interested third party to plead in a case between two others; intervention.

During medieval times, resceit was a common practice in legal proceedings. For example, if two knights were in a dispute over land ownership, a third knight who had an interest in the land could request resceit and be allowed to plead his case in court.

Another example of resceit could be seen in a modern-day divorce case. If a couple is going through a divorce and a family member or friend has a vested interest in the outcome, they may request resceit and be allowed to plead their case in court.
