A right-to-work law is a state law that allows employees to work without being required to join a union as a condition of employment. This means that workers have the right to choose whether or not they want to join a union, and cannot be forced to do so.

For example, in a state with a right-to-work law, a company cannot require its employees to join a union in order to work there. Even if the company has a union, employees can choose not to join and still keep their job.

Right-to-work laws are controversial because some people believe that they weaken unions and make it harder for workers to negotiate for better wages and working conditions. Others argue that these laws protect workers' freedom of choice and make it easier for businesses to operate.
