SOBRANTE

Sobrante means surplus.

This term is often found in old land grants in states that were previously governed by Mexico.

Example 1: The land grant included a sobrante of 10 acres.

Example 2: The sobrante from the harvest was sold at the market.

These examples illustrate that sobrante refers to an excess or surplus of something. In the first example, the land grant included an additional 10 acres beyond what was originally requested or needed.
