Term: solutus
Definition: Solutus means to be set free or released from an obligation or confinement. In Roman law, it was used to describe someone who was no longer bound by a legal agreement or contract. In Scots law, it was used to describe a lawyer who had been cleared of any wrongdoing.
Examples:

• After serving his sentence, the prisoner was solutus and allowed to leave the jail.
• When the contract was terminated, the parties were solutus from their obligations.
• The lawyer was solutus of any charges after the court found him innocent.

The examples illustrate how solutus is used to describe someone who has been released from a legal obligation or confinement.
