A suggestion is an idea or statement that is presented indirectly. It can also refer to a statement of fact or circumstance that will have an impact on future proceedings in a case. In the past, it was also used to describe undue influence in wills and estates.

• The client agreed with the lawyer's suggestion to reword the warranty.
• The judge made a suggestion for a rehearing en banc, which would involve all the judges of the court.
• In the past, a suggestion could be used to describe when someone was being influenced unfairly in a will or estate.

The first two examples illustrate the first two senses of the definition. In the first example, the lawyer indirectly presented an idea to the client, which the client agreed with. In the second example, the judge made a statement of fact that would impact the future proceedings of the case. The third example is an archaic use of the term, which is no longer commonly used.
