Definition of tales-juror
A tales-juror is a person who is selected from among the bystanders in court to serve as a juror when the original jury panel has become deficient in number. This term is also known as talesman.
For example, if a trial requires 12 jurors but only 11 are available, a tales-juror may be selected from the bystanders to fill the missing spot.
The term "tales-juror" comes from the Latin phrase "nominis tales," which means "such persons."
