UTLAGARE

Utlagare is a verb that comes from Law Latin and means to put an offender outside the protection of the law. This is also known as OUTLAWRY(2). It is the opposite of INLAGARE.

• When the criminal was found guilty of his crimes, he was utlagare and could no longer rely on the law to protect him.
• The king had the power to utlagare anyone who disobeyed his orders.

These examples illustrate how utlagare was used in the past to punish criminals or those who went against the king's orders. Once someone was utlagare, they were no longer protected by the law and could be punished without consequence. This was a serious punishment and meant that the person was essentially an outlaw.
