Definition of vinagium
VINAGIUM
Vinagium is a type of payment made in the form of wine as rent for a vineyard.
For example, a tenant may pay their landlord with a certain amount of wine produced from the vineyard instead of paying with money. Another example is a farmer who rents a vineyard and pays the owner with a portion of the wine produced from the grapes.
These examples illustrate how vinagium was used as a form of payment in medieval times when vineyards were commonly rented out. Instead of paying with money, tenants would pay with wine produced from the vineyard. This was a mutually beneficial arrangement as the landlord would receive a portion of the wine produced and the tenant would have access to the vineyard to produce their own wine.
