A weighted vote is a type of vote where the strength of the vote is allocated among the ranked preferences either by the voter or according to a series of fixed weights. This means that some votes count more than others, depending on the ranking or weight assigned to them.

For example, in a board of directors meeting, each member may have a certain number of votes assigned to them based on their position or seniority. The chairman may have more votes than a regular member. This is an example of a weighted vote.

Another example is in a preferential vote, where voters rank the choices in order of preference. The first choice may be assigned a higher weight than the second or third choice, and so on.
