Definition: "Your witness" is a phrase used in a courtroom by a lawyer to indicate that they have finished questioning a witness and it is now the other side's turn to ask questions. It is also known as "take the witness" or "pass the witness."
- Lawyer 1: "Your honor, I have no further questions for this witness."
- Judge: "Very well. Your witness, Lawyer 2."
- Lawyer 2: "Thank you, your honor. Mr. Smith, can you please describe what you saw on the night of the incident?"
In this example, Lawyer 1 has finished questioning the witness and passes the opportunity to Lawyer 2 by saying "your witness." Lawyer 2 then begins their questioning.
