The Bureau of Export Administration (BXA) was a bureau in the U.S. Department of Commerce that was responsible for issuing export licenses and enforcing export-control laws.

In 2002, the bureau's name was changed to the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS).

An example of the BXA's responsibilities would be if a company wanted to export a product that could be used for military purposes, the BXA would review the application and determine if it was in compliance with export-control laws.

The BXA's role was to ensure that exports did not pose a threat to national security or foreign policy interests.
