Effets are bills of exchange or goods that can be moved, like stocks or funds. Cause is something that makes something else happen, like an accident. Proximate cause is the main cause that is legally responsible for an event or injury. But-for cause is the cause without which the event could not have occurred. Intervening cause is an event that comes between the initial event and the end result, altering the natural course of events. Good cause is a legally sufficient reason for something, like terminating employment. A cause can also refer to a lawsuit or case in court.
