Definition of Exercise Clause
The Exercise Clause, also known as the Free Exercise Clause, is a provision in the United States Constitution (Amendment I) that prohibits the government from interfering with people's religious practices or forms of worship.
For example, if a person's religion requires them to wear a certain type of clothing or head covering, the government cannot make a law that prohibits them from doing so. Similarly, the government cannot force someone to participate in a religious activity that goes against their beliefs.
The Exercise Clause is important because it protects people's freedom to practice their religion without fear of government interference or persecution.
The end of law is not to abolish or restrain, but to preserve and enlarge freedom.
