Definition of Federal Protective Service
The Federal Protective Service (FPS) is a law-enforcement agency within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Its main responsibility is to protect ambassadors, diplomatic staffs, and embassy property. The agency was transferred from the General Services Administration in 2003.
For example, if a foreign ambassador visits the United States, the FPS would be responsible for ensuring their safety and security during their stay. Additionally, if there were any threats or attacks on embassy property, the FPS would be the agency to respond and investigate.
The FPS plays a crucial role in protecting the United States' diplomatic interests and ensuring the safety of foreign officials on American soil.
