A hybrid mark is a type of trademark that is made up of several words that form a distinctive whole, even if the individual words are ordinary. This type of trademark is also known as a composite trademark. Advertising slogans are often protectable as hybrid marks. A trademark registrant can establish ownership in the whole mark, but must disclaim ownership in any unregistrable parts.

For example, the hybrid mark "Just Do It" is a well-known trademark of Nike. The individual words "just" and "do" are common, but when combined with "it," they form a distinctive and memorable phrase that is associated with Nike's brand and products.
