An injury is when someone is harmed by another person's actions or lack of action. This harm can lead to a legal claim or criminal charges. In unintentional harm cases, the injury is a crucial part of the case. In California, for example, if someone is negligent and doesn't take care to prevent harm to themselves or others, they can be held responsible for any injuries that result.

There are different types of injuries recognized by the law:

• Permanent injury: This is a type of injury that has a lasting negative effect on someone's ability to work. For example, if someone loses a limb, they may not be able to do the same job they did before.
• Irreparable injury: This is a type of harm that can't be fixed with money. For example, if a river is polluted, it can't be cleaned up with money alone.

For example, if someone is hit by a car while crossing the street, they may suffer injuries that prevent them from working. This would be considered a permanent injury. If a company dumps toxic waste into a river, the pollution can't be undone with money. This would be an irreparable injury.
