NONDELEGABLE

nondelegable (non-del-uh-guh-buhl), adj. (Of a power, function, etc.) not capable of being entrusted to another's care. For example, the duty to maintain the premises is a nondelegable duty.

When something is nondelegable, it means that it cannot be given to someone else to take care of. For instance, if you have a duty to maintain a building, you cannot give that responsibility to someone else. You are the only one who can do it.

• A doctor cannot delegate their responsibility to provide proper medical care to a patient.
• A company cannot delegate its responsibility to provide a safe working environment for its employees.
• A property owner cannot delegate their responsibility to maintain their property and keep it safe for visitors.

These examples illustrate the definition of nondelegable because in each case, there is a responsibility that cannot be given to someone else. The doctor, company, and property owner are all the only ones who can fulfill their duties, and they cannot pass them off to someone else.
