PLACE OF WRONG

The place, usually a state, where the final event occurs that makes someone responsible for a claimed wrongdoing.

For example, if someone is injured in a car accident in California, but the driver who caused the accident lives in Nevada, the place of wrong would be California because that is where the injury occurred. Another example would be if someone was defamed online in New York, but the person who posted the defamatory statement lives in Florida, the place of wrong would be New York because that is where the harm was done.
