Definition: Puffing is when someone exaggerates or makes an overstated claim about a product or service to try to sell it. This is different from fraud, which is when someone lies about a fact to make a sale. Puffing statements are opinions and not facts, so they cannot be relied upon. However, if a puffing statement goes too far and becomes a false statement of fact, it could lead to legal action.
