Definition of revocation hearing
A revocation hearing is a legal proceeding held to determine whether a person who has been granted parole should be sent back to prison for violating the terms of their parole. This type of hearing is typically held after a person has been released from prison and is serving their sentence under supervision in the community.
For example, if a person is released on parole but then violates the conditions of their release by committing a new crime or failing to report to their parole officer, a revocation hearing may be held to determine whether they should be sent back to prison.
During the hearing, evidence is presented and the parolee has the opportunity to defend themselves against the allegations. The decision to revoke parole is made by a judge or parole boardbased on the evidence presented.
