Single combat is a type of fight between two or more people using deadly weapons. It is usually prearranged and follows specific rules. The purpose of single combat is to settle a previous quarrel or seek revenge for a deed.

In England and the United States, death resulting from single combat is treated as murder. The seconds, or witnesses, may also be held responsible as accessories.

For example, if two people have a disagreement and decide to settle it through single combat, they would choose their weapons and agree on the rules of the fight. The fight would take place in the presence of at least two witnesses. If one person dies during the fight, the survivor could be charged with murder.

Single combat is different from other types of fights because it is prearranged and follows specific rules. It is also different from an "affray," which is a fight that occurs on a sudden quarrel.
