A stateless person is someone who is not considered a citizen or national by any country. This means they do not have a passport or any legal documentation that proves their nationality.

For example, imagine a person who was born in a country but their parents were not citizens of that country. If that person is not granted citizenship by any other country, they would be considered stateless.

The Stateless Persons Convention (1954) is an international agreement that provides protection for stateless people and requires them to follow the laws of the country where they live. This means that even though they do not have a nationality, they still have certain rights and responsibilities.
